Traveler note
Visit the illuminated temple gardens in Matsushima, outside Sendai. The temple does not sell these night tickets online. Buy at Matsushima Momiji-an in front of Sanshodo, 16:00-20:45; for advance purchase between 10:00 and 16:00 use Senshin-an, which does not sell tickets at night. The temple has no parking. Expect queues on busy evenings, and check the current foliage report before travelling; the archive photo does not show the 2026 light show or current foliage and weather. Photography aids including tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, stabilisers and drones are prohibited, as are wearable cameras including handheld-grip and arm-strap models. Commercial photography is prohibited. Wheelchair users need an accompanying person; pets other than guide or assistance dogs are not admitted.
